Acura ILX Endurance Racer

At the 2012 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, the new 2013 Acura ILX competition version will be unveiled. Following its introduction, it will make its competition debut at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race, a traditional event hosted by the National Auto Sport Association (NASA). Two E1 class Acura ILX sedans prepared to NASA U.S. Touring Car specs will be entered in the 25-hour race that takes place at the three-mile Thunderhill road course in Northern California. The two cars are the result of the efforts of Team Honda Research-West (THR-W), who are members of Honda R&D Americas located in Torrance, California. The cars were initially supplied to THR-W in “body in white” format from Honda Manufacturing of Indiana. Components such as suspension, powertrain, interior and electronic parts were taken from a pair of “donor” cars supplied from American Honda Motor Co. The cars’ builds included as many OEM components as possible to keep them serviceable and tested for durability in endurance racing. The team focused on reducing vehicle weight for the Thunderhill race rather than performance modifications to achieve performance targets set.
