Acura MD-X Concept

The Acura MD-X Concept luxury performance SUV was unveiled today at the 2006 New York International Auto Show. Its bold and sleek exterior design serves as a preview of the next generation MDX production model. John Mendel, senior vice president at auto operations, highlighted its performance character combined with functionality. With a low and wide stance, the MD-X Concept conveys a feeling of power and prestige. Its smooth and chiseled lines create an elegance, with a prominent character line running from the front to the rear, grasping the notion of forward movement. The sharply raked D-pillar creates an aerodynamic form, allowing for third row seating and cargo carrying capability. Redesigned 20-inch five-spoke custom alloy wheels and larger wheel arches complete the wide and low appearance. The windshield glass is flush mounted to contribute to smoothness in its design. For the front end, there are pronounced character lines that end in a striking five-sided grille, emphasizing its potency. The narrow Xenon HID headlights enhance its solid, distinct look. The rear of the MD-X Concept is also notable with its integrated rear hatch that is flush against the bumper. LED taillights and a rear spoiler plus dual exhaust pipes adorn the smooth and sporty finish of the SUV. According to Ricky Hsu, chief designer for the MD-X Concept, “Our goal was to create the image of a sports sedan while maintaining generous interior volume and utility of a SUV.”
