Acura NSX Concept
The Acura NSX Concept is set to be the next great performance vehicle from the Acura brand. It sport a dynamically-styled, lightweight body accompanied by a mid-mounted V6 engine designed to deliver superior performance with the help of Acura's innovative Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® (Super Handling All Wheel Drive™) hybrid system. Utilizing a unique 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit with a bilateral torque adjustable control system, the hybrid all-wheel-drive system is able to adjust the amount of negative or positive torque to the front wheels during cornering, enhancing handling performance. Furthermore, this high-powered system is also equipped with a next-generation VTEC® V-6 engine with direct-injection and dual clutch transmission with a built-in electric motor, allowing for supercar-like acceleration but with excellent fuel efficiency.
"This Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system will make NSX the ultimate expression of Acura's idea to create synergy between man and machine," said Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. "The NSX will make the driver one with the car to enhance dynamic driving abilities without getting in the way."
Rather than rely on brute force provided by a larger engine, the Acura NSX Concept emphasizes on power-to-weight ratio for true racing performance. "Like the first NSX, we will again express high performance through engineering efficiency," Ito added. "In this new era, even as we focus on the fun to drive spirit of the NSX, I think a supercar must respond positively to environmental responsibilities."
Scheduled to debut in the next three years, the new Acura supercar will be masterfully engineered by Honda R&D Americas, Inc., and manufactured in Ohio.
