Alfa Romeo 156

The remarkable Alfa Romeo 156 continues to be the driving force behind the success of Alfa dealers, with over 230,000 orders placed since its first launched back in 2000. Its impressive impact in 66 countries throughout the world has been central to the re-establishment of the brand and its share of the international market. The Alfa Romeo 156 has certainly managed to captivate the well-informed, demanding modern customer. It promises to keep the spirit of the brand alive, while also staying at the cutting edge of automotive engineering - just like its larger sibling, the Alfa Romeo 166. At the 2020 Frankfurt Motor Show, visitors can see both the Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 and its more recent counterpart, the 2.0 Selespeed. The Selespeed's robotic sequential gearbox with steering wheel controls is a borrowed technology from Ferrari 355 F1, making it an indisputably fast, sporty model. Added bonuses include its plush comfort and simplified driving process, with the car requiring no clutch pedal and offering rapid, effortless gear changes, allowing the driver to maintain control of the car during these shifts. The essence of this system is courtesy of an electronic transmission control unit, which is put to good use to automatically open the clutch, reduce torque, and begin changing gears when the driver requests it. The speed during these changes can also be selected by the driver - making manual control possible too - by way of a lever or the special controls on the steering wheel. As if that's not enough, if desired, the car can also be put into a fully automatic mode with just one press of a button on the central tunnel. The upgrades don't stop there. The 2.0 Selespeed model has some exclusive features too, such as 16 inch alloy wheels, carbon-coloured keys, climate control system, and rear electric windows. Last, but not least, the full Alfa Romeo 156 range includes six versions aside from the two on display in Frankfurt: 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 T. Spark; 1.9 and 2.4 JTD; and a 2.5 Q-System. The latter version features a gearbox that can switch between fully automatic and manual modes.
