Alfa Romeo 2000 Sport Spider

The Alfa Romeo 2000 (series 102) was the successor to the 1900 and was unveiled at the Turin autosalon in 1957. The car was offered in two models, the Berlina with 105 bhp (78 kW) and the Sport Spider with 115 bhp (86 kW). Later, in 1960, the Sprint was added. The engine was a larger version of the Alfa Romeo 1900's four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1975 cc. The cast-iron block and aluminum head was equipped with single downdraft Solex carburetor in the Berlina model and two Solex sidedraft carburetors in the Sprint and Spider, producing 105 bhp (78 kW) at 5300 rpm and 115 bhp (86 kW) at 5900 rpm, respectively. The four-door Berlina was manufactured in-house by Alfa Romeo, while the Spider and Sprint were designed and manufactured by Touring and Bertone, respectively. Unfortunately, the cars had high prices, resulting in only 2,814 Berlina, 3,443 Sport Spider and 704 Sprint units being sold worldwide. The Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina was eventually replaced by the six-cylinder Alfa Romeo 2600 in 1961.
