Alfa Romeo 33 1.5 4x4
The Alfa Romeo 33 was a compact car manufactured by Alfa Romeo between 1983 and 1994. It was an evolution of the Alfa Romeo Alfasud, with some minor modifications. It was first released as a 5-door hatchback and was later, in 1984, followed by the station wagon version initially called the Giardinetta and later renamed SportWagon. Also offered was a 4x4 version of the hatchback. Both the hatchback and station wagon were designed respectively by the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo and Pininfarina.
The Alfa Romeo 33 was renowned for its agile handling and powerful boxer engines, but their frequent electrical faults and tendency to rust earned them a bad reputation. Over the course of its 11 year production period, it went through several design updates with the first models being labelled as 'Alfa 90' 33s to reflect their similarity to the Alfa Romeo 90. A mild restyle was implemented in 1987 when the 1.7 litre engine was introduced, and in 1990, the exterior was heavily updated with a modernised Alfa Romeo 164-style look, alongside a new interior and an upgraded 1.7 litre, 137 bhp 16 valve engine. These late models are often referred to as the 'Alfa 75' or 'Nuova/164' 33s.
An impressive one million Alfa Romeo 33s were created and the 33 was succeeded in 1994 by the Alfa Romeo 145 and 146, which had the same Boxer engines as the 33, but were based on the Fiat Tipo platform.
Engine types of the Alfa Romeo 33 include a single carburettor 79 bhp 1.3 and 85 bhp 1.5, a twin carburettor 105 hp 1.5 with with Weber or Dell Orto DRLA40, a 117 hp Boxer twin Weber or Dell Orto DRLA40 1.7, a 88 bhp (some markets under 1.3 logo) 1.4 fuel injection, 97 bhp 1.5 fuel injection, 107 bhp 1.7 IE fuel injection, 137–132 bhp 1.7 16v QV fuel injection, and an 83 hp 1.8 TD (3 Cylinder) fuel injection.
