Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 6 2.5i
Introduced in 1974 as the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT, this vehicle was initially offered with the 1.8-litre (1779cc) version of the Alfa DOHC four-cylinder engine. In 1976, when the 105 Series 1.3 and 1.6-litre coupes (GT 1300 Junior and GT 1600 Junior) were phased out, and the 2.0-litre 105 Series 2000 GTV was discontinued, the Alfetta GT became a range, offering the 1.6-litre (1570cc) and 2.0-litre (1962cc) versions of the same engine. GTV designation was initially reserved for the 2.0-litre top version.
In 1979, the 2.0-litre engine was updated, with new camshaft profiles and a change to mechanical-and-vacuum ignition advance, and received the designation Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2000L. Autodelta developed a limited edition turbocharged model, called the Turbodelta, for Group 4 homologation, using a KKK turbocharger to boost power up to 175 PS (129 kW). The suspension was also modified.
In 1981, the Alfetta GT was restyled, and the 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre versions were discontinued, leaving the Alfetta 2000 GTV as the base coupé model. It was now known simply as the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 2.0. The same year, the
Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV 6 2.5i was released, featuring a SOHC V6 2.5-litre engine from the Alfa Romeo Alfa 6 luxury sedan. This necessitated a hood bulge to accommodate the engine, which became its most obvious feature. The V6 was equipped with Bosch fuel injection, which improved its starting and regulation compared to the Alfa 6's six downdraught Dellorto carburettors. The V6 won rave reviews and was highly successful in racing and rallying, including winning the European Touring Car Championship an unprecedented four years in a row (1982-1985), and the British Touring Car Championship in 1983 with Andy Rouse. In 1984, the GTV had its gear ratios revised and its interior was updated.
