Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept
The all-new Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept, a high performance version of the Alfa Romeo MiTo, was unveiled at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show. Inspired by the renowned Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and 8C Spider, the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept emphasizes the same philosophy - maximizing driving pleasure through amazing agility, resulting from its remarkable power-to-weight ratio similar to a racing car.
In line with the famous GTA (Gran Turismo Alleggerito) signature – Alleggerito meaning ‘reduced weight’ in Italian – the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept focuses heavily on weight reduction and optimizing its power-to-weight ratio. To decrease the vehicle’s center of gravity, carbon-fibre is used for the tailgate spoiler, roof and mirror fairings, while the braking system, suspension, and parts of the chassis incorporate aluminum.
Under the hood, the concept comprises an impressive modern petrol engine, built to satisfy the requirements of decreased size, environmental friendliness, and high power with minimal weight and optimized construction. Developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies and drawing on the expertise in developing Twin Spark and Alfa V6 road and race engines, this reliable 1742cc petrol engine produces, thanks to direct injection, dual variable valve timing, state-of-the-art turbocharging and progressive electronic management systems, an unbelievable 240bhp.
The aerodynamics have been enhanced from the under-floor components, and the car has been dropped by roughly 20mm. The front suspension boasts new geometry with aluminum leading arms, while the all-new rear suspension has specially designed bushings and an ‘active’ suspension system that toughens the rear end for superior traction when accelerating. Passage comfort is also taken into consideration via the ‘Sky-Hook’ function for everyday use.
