Alfa Romeo Montreal

The Alfa Romeo Montreal was a popular coupe automobile produced between 1970 and 1977 by the Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo. It first debuted as a concept car at Montreal's Expo 67 and was named after the city. This two-plus-two was based on the chassis and 1600 cc engine of the Alfa Romeo Giulia, while bearing a newly-designed body by Marcello Gandini at Bertone. At the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, the first production model was debuted with a few notable differences. The engine had been upgraded to a 2593 cc V8, coupled with SPICA fuel injection contributing to an output of around 200 bhp. It also featured a five-speed ZF gearbox and limited-slip differential. This powerplant had already been used by Alfa Romeo in prototype racing and in the 33 Stradale. The Montreal's chassis and running gear were both sourced from the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTV coupé, incorprating a double wishbone suspension with coil springs and dampers in the front, and a reliable live axle at the rear with limited slip differential. Only four Alfa Romeo Montreals were sold to buyers within the city of Montreal, Quebec. Despite this, there were no modifications to the car until its discontinuation in 1977.
