Drawing on Giorgetto Giugiaro's prestigious Alfa Romeo Brera design, the newest Alfa Romeo Spider was crafted by Pininfarina and Alfa Romeo Centro Stile. After winning the Cabrio of the Year award at the Geneva Motorshow in 2006, the Alfa Romeo Spider is renowned for its superior engineering, high performance, and revered pedigree.
At launch, there are four versions of the UK version offered, starting at £25,995 on-the-road, with two petrol configurations - a 2.2 litre 185 bhp 4-cylinder engine and a 3.2 litre 260 bhp V6 - and one diesel option, the 2.4 litre 20v 200 bhp MultiJet (JTDM). For the 2.2 JTS, the powerplant is mated to an M32.6 6-speed manual gearbox, while the 3.2 JTS and 2.4 JTDM come with the F40 6-speed manual. An automatic QTRONIC 6-speed version with manual sequential-shift override and gearshift paddles is available for the 3.2 JTS V6.
AdvancedDirect injection and continuously variable valve timing affecting the inlet and exhaust camshafts make the JTS petrol engines incredibly energetic and fuel efficient. Both offer more than 80 bhp/litre and nearly 90% of maximum torque is available at just 2000 rpm, while still complying to the stringent Euro Stage 4 exhaust emission limits.
