Alpina BMW B3 Bi-Turbo

Turbocharged engines have formed an integral part of ALPINA's 40-year history of automobile manufacturing. ALPINA's turbocharged engines were first introduced in 1978, based on the 5 Series and 6 Series models (E12 & E28 and E24). The iconic BMW ALPINA B10 Bi-Turbo from 1989 stands as an example of the cult status some of these models achieved. The new BMW ALPINA B3 Bi-Turbo brings this storied tradition into the present for the very first time, marking its world premiere at the 2007 Geneva Salon d'Automobile. At the heart of the B3 Bi-Turbo is an impressive engine that produces 265 kW (360 hp) at 5,500 - 6,000 revolutions per minute and an incredible torque of 500 Nm from 3,800 - 5,000 rpm. Additionally, this sporty engine can rev up to 7,000 rpm, and offers vigorous torque from 1500 rpm. The powerband created from these specifications is broader than ever before, delivering both sporty and bullish driving dynamics. This power output is all made possible by the exceptionally designed BMW base engine coupled with the efficient direct injection technology. ALPINA engineers spent a year crafting the ALPINA engine map, leveraging the advantages of modern direct injection. The fitness of the MAHLE pistons allows for a maximum boost of 1.1 bar and a compression ratio of 9.4:1, enabling peak specific values of 89 kW (121 hp) per litre and a maximum average pressure of 21 bar.
