On January 4th 2004, the Aston Martin DB9 Volante had its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show. This marked the sixth new car release from the AstonMartin company in just two and a half years. As the 13th convertible produced by the brand, the Aston Martin DB9 Volante joined a long list of post-war models, including the 1950 DB2, DB4, DB5, DB6, V8 and DB7. This is the first time the company has introduced the VH Platform (Vertical/Horizontal) Strategy to a convertible, and the first model built in the Aston Martin Gaydon facility.
The Aston Martin DB9 Volante runs in parallel with the Aston Martin DB9 Coupe, which made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2003. Both vehicles are entirely crafted by hand at Aston Martin Gaydon. The Coupe is set to reach customers by Spring 2004, whereas the Volante will hit the roads in Autumn 2004. The company estimates that 2000 DB9 models will be bought in 2005, of which 50% will be the Volante.
