Aston Martin V8

In response to years of customer demand, Aston Martin designed a two-door saloon powered by an eight-cylinder engine in the late 1960s - the Aston Martin V8. The engine was not initially ready for the car, so the company released the Aston Martin DBS with a straight-six Vantage engine from the Aston Martin DB6 in 1967. As soon as Tadek Marek finished his V8 engine, two years later, the DBS V8 was released. Following the discontinuation of the Vantage six-cylinder engine in 1973, the DBS V8 was rechristened the Aston Martin V8 and became Aston's signature car for the next two decades. In 1990, the V8 was supplanted by the Aston Martin Virage.

Aston Martin DBS V8

From 1969 through 1972, Aston's main car was the DBS V8. The body was a modern version of the classic Aston Martin style, with a squared-off grille and four headlights. Significant decorative differences between the V8 and the Vantage-powered DBS include the larger front air dam, absent wire wheels, and Hillman Hunter tail lights. Under the hood lived Marek’s V8 engine, boasting 5.3L (5340 cc/325 in³) and Bosch fuel injection; power output was estimated at 315 hp (235 kW). This car was an absolute beast, capable of reaching 60 mph (97 km/h) in just 5.9 seconds, and reaching a top speed of nearly 160 mph (257 km/h).
