Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24

Just after 3:00 pm on June 18, 2006, Chris Porritt, Aston Martin's Vehicle Engineering Manager, got out of the cockpit of a bright yellow V8 Vantage in the pit lane of the Nürburgring. Over the course of the preceding 24 hour period, Porritt, along with his co-drivers Ulrich Bez, Horst von Saurma, and Wolfgang Schuhbauer, had driven the legendary 15.77 mile lap around the Eifel mountain region of Germany 130 times. The near-standard Aston Martin V8 Vantage placed 24th among the 220 starters-- a remarkable accomplishment given the field of specialized race homologated entrants. The Nürburgring 24 hour race not only gives its name to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24, but provided proof of its capabilities-- a near-standard car that could handle the challenging demands of a prestigious race circuit. After their success in Germany, the V8 Vantage N24 finished eighth overall in the inaugural 24-hour race at Bahrain in December 2006 with minimal maintenance needed-- just fuel, brake pads, and tires. In 2007, the N24 competed in the newly-established European GT4 series. At the Silverstone race in May, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24 achieved a first and second place finish.
