In 1978, there were few new convertibles being made. Nevertheless, there was high demand for second-hand Aston Martin drop-head coupes, especially in the US, since their native car industry had ceased production. On June 21st, the Aston Martin V8 Volante was unveiled, and was met with a warm welcome.
Based on the then-contemporary Aston Martin V8 Saloon, this open-top car featured polished burr walnut trims and a redesigned bonnet. The hood was powered and was lined to keep noise out.
