Aston Martin Virage

The Aston Martin Virage made its first appearance at the 1988 Birmingham Motor Show, and wowed many with its sleek styling, quieter and more comfortable features compared to its predecessors. The Virage was equipped with an entirely new engine developed in conjunction with Callaway Engineering that included four-valve-per-cylinder cylinder heads for better performance, as well as the capacity to run on unleaded gasoline, especially in the United States. In March 1992, the vehicle was upgraded to a 6.3-liter version that boasted an impressive 174 mph top speed and a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds. With the help of computer-aided design, the chassis was lighter and stronger torsionally for improved handling and braking. External modifications included flared wheel arches, revised front spoiler, and an available rear spoiler. The 6.3-liter Aston Martin Virage Mk II was unveiled in 1993, with a power of 465 bhp and 460 lbs-ft of torque at 5800 rpm. Additionally, a ZF 6-speed manual was also provided as an option, and its 0-60 mph time slightly improved at 5.2 seconds. The Aston Martin Virage Volante was released to the public at the 1990 Birmingham Motor Show. Its technical specifications included a dohc V-8 engine of 5340 cc, 330 bhp @ 6000 rpm, 350 lbs-ft @ 3700 rpm (with 300 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 350 lbs-ft @ 3700 rpm for the Volante). The transmission was available in either five-speed manual or three-speed automatic. The suspension included independent traverse unequal-length wishbones in the front, anti-roll bar and coil springs, and a de Dion axle, trailing arms, Watt linkage in the rear. Brakes were servo-assisted and featured front/rear discs and ABS. It had a length of 15'7" (4737 mm); width of 6'1" (1854 mm); height of 4'4" (1321 mm); wheelbase of 8'7" (2610 mm); and a weight of 1790 kg. Its top speed was 155 mph (250 kph) and had a 0-60 mph time of 6.0 sec. (automatic). Production lasted from 1988 to 1995, and the prices for coupe and Volante options were £ 129,950 and £ 149, 000 respectively.
