Aston Martin Virage Volante
The Aston Martin Virage made its debut at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1988. The
Aston Martin Virage, designed by John Heffernan and Ken Greeley, was known for its elegant styling, quieter and more comfortable ride than the
older V8's. The new engine, developed in partnership with Callaway Engineering, was equipped with four valves per cylinder for better breathability and capability of running on unleaded fuel anywhere, particularly in America.
In March 1992, the 6.3 litre version of the Aston Martin Virage was revealed featuring a top speed of 174 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds. Along with improvements to the vehicle's handling and braking, ABS was offered as an option for the first time in an Aston Martin. The chassis underwent a redesign with the help of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and became lighter yet sturdier. Exterior differences included flared wheel arches, a revised front spoiler, and an optional rear spoiler.
In 1993, the Mk II 6.3 litre Aston Martin Virage was introduced with an output of 465 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 460 lbs-ft of torque at 5800 rpm, with a ZF 6-speed manual also available. 0-60 mph was clocked at 5.2 seconds with the Mk II conversion.
