A heavily revised version of Audi's C3 model, the C4, was unveiled in 1991. Accompanying this change was the introduction of a 2.8L V6 engine and a 2.6L variant. The two V6 engines were the same ones used in the 1992 Audi 80. Customers had the option of opting for the quattro all-wheel drive feature across this range. The Audi 100 quattro could be purchased with a ZF 4-speed automatic gearbox as well. In 1995, the 100 model nameplate was dropped and the automobile was named the A6. Additionally, the S4 model was substituted for the S6. However, the two models diverged from each other following Audi's release of the A4 model, replacing the 80, in 1994. Ultimately, the V8 model was replaced by the A8 in 1994.
