The technology of the Audi A1 e-tron Over the past few months, the e-tron model family from Audi has grown to include a variety of different drive technologies. The debut of the first e-tron at the 2009 IAA in Frankfurt/Main was a near-series high-performance sports car employing electric motors for each of its four wheels. At the 2010 Detroit Motor Show, Audi unveiled a lightweight, compact two-seater equipped with two electric motors on its rear axle as a study. The ascent of the Audi A1 e-tron Concept continues this trend of innovative electric drive technologies, offering a compact electric car in the premium class. Appropriate for metropolitan areas of Europe, North America, Asia, and South America, the four-passenger, two-door MCV is designed for day-to-day urban journeys. The electric motor of the Audi A1 e-tron is the primary energy source, with the internal combustion engine being used to recharge the battery only in exceptional circumstances.
