Audi A2 2000 posters

Audi A2

The Audi A2 is a premium supermini produced by Audi from 1999 to 2005. The last cars left the Neckarsulm plant in July 2005. Design and Construction The A2 is ahead of its time in terms of styling, but this has not been reflected in the sales figures. Audi is said to be disappointed with the level of sales, with the final production estimated to be 175,000 - far fewer than the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which sold over a million units. The A2 is constructed using aluminium alloy, offering a weight advantage and improved fuel economy over similar-sized cars. Under certain conditions, fuel consumption of just over 2 l/100 km (128 mpg, imperial gallon) is possible, and in 2005, the A2 won the Nordic Countries EcoRun economical driving race with consumption of 2.62 l/100 km. The A2 is built on a space frame design, and the outer body panels do not have any structural function. As a result, the car has improved stability, durability and interior space as well as a lighter weight. On the downside, the use of aluminium and relatively low production levels has made the car more expensive than its competitors, which has likely hindered its sales.
