Audi A3 Sportback g-tron
Audi is taking a pioneering leap toward sustainable future mobility with the launch of its A3 Sportback g-tron. This five-door premium compact vehicle, slated to hit the market towards the end of the year, can be fueled with either fossil fuel natural gas or climate-friendly Audi e-gas, produced from the recently completed power-to-gas plant. It is a grand synthesis of ecological savvy, economy, and advanced technological solutions.
The Audi A3 Sportback g-tron, the brand's first natural gas car to move into production, highlights the full scope of Audi's technological expertise, from ultra lightweight materials to cutting-edge infotainment and driver assistance systems, inclusive of cutting-edge CNG (compressed natural gas) technology and tank storage technology. Its two pressurized tanks below the trunk floor have a combined capacity to store around seven kilograms of gas - which requires very little space from the spare wheel.
In line with the Audi's propensity for ultra lightweight construction, the tanks weigh 70% less than traditional steel containers, with a weight difference of 27 kilograms. Its design is governed by an innovative three-layer setup: an interior gas impermeable polyamide matrix, a second layer of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) for its superior resilience, and a third layer of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) to safeguard it from external damage. The binding material is epoxy resin.
