The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron is a next-generation plug-in hybrid vehicle set to go on sale in 2014 that brings together the typical Audi qualities of sporty power and efficiency with abundant driving pleasure and everyday practicality. With 150 kW (204 hp) of system power, the A3 Sportback e-tron delivers an average consumption of only 1.5 liters per 100 km (156.81 US mpg) of gasoline, while its electric-only range is up to 50 kilometers (31.07 miles) with the addition of an 890 km (553.02 miles) range when the TFSI engine is operating. Capturing the spirit of the Audi A3 Sportback, this compact hybrid showcases a 0-100 km/h (62.14 mph) acceleration time of 7.6 seconds, a top speed of 222 km/h (137.94 mph) and an average CO2 emission rating of merely 35 grams per km (56.33 g/mile) – the equivalent of 1.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (156.81 US mpg). Invoking Audi’s expertise in lightweight engineering, the five-door A3 Sportback e-tron has a weight of less than 1,580 kilo-grams (3,483.30 lb), to fit five passengers and ample cargo – boasting Audi’s classic elements of stylish design, a dynamic chassis, incomparable ergonomics, advanced build quality, and ample help and infotainment systems. The 1.4 TFSI gasoline engine, positioned several centimeters to the right to make room for the high-voltage components, features a diecast aluminum crank-case that weighs just over 100 kg (220.46 lb).
