Audi A4 DTM Edition

Audi launched a revised A4 in late 2004 based on the B7 platform, which is exclusive to Audi and not shared with Volkswagen. Nevertheless, the B7 is merely a makeover of the B6 platform, and not a complete redesign, as demonstrated by Audi's internal platform nomenclature, PL46 (longitudinal passenger car platform, size 4, generation 6), which is utilized for both the B6 and B7 models. The engine range was further expanded, with the new 2.0 TFSI and 3.2 V6 FSI adding Fuel Stratified Injection technology and, respectively, 200 and 255 PS (147 and 188 kW) power output. However, these engines have exchanged the five-valve design for a more common four-valve-per-cylinder configuration, as the five-valve design does not work with the direct injection system. In addition, the 2.0-litre TDI engine was one of the first to incorporate Pumpe Düse (PD) and 16 valves, while the 2.5 TDI was upgraded to a 3.0-litre unit with 204 PS (150 kW). Quattro was offered as optional or standard on higher trim levels, and both Multitronic and Tiptronic automatic gearboxes were available across the range. Multitronic is only available on front-wheel drive models and Tiptronic must be used with quattro. Apart from the unchanged S4, the lineup was extended to include the RS4, with a normally aspirated 4.2 V8 FSI engine in both sedan and cabriolet versions. Quattro in its 3rd generation uses a 40:60 front-rear power distribution and, since late 2005, the DTM Edition with the 2.0T FSI engine tuned up to 220 PS (162 kW) and standard quattro has been a regular option. The front grill assembly has been altered to be full-height, similar to the Audi A6. The B7 cabriolet hit the market in February 2006, including an entry-2.0 TDI model, but this model is not available with the Multitronic gearbox.
