At the 2011 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Audi revealed their brand-new Audi A5 DTM race car. This two-door coupe will succeed the V8 Quattro (1990 to 1992) and the A4 (2004 to 2011), marking the brand's first ever use of a coupe in the popular international series. The car, officially given the internal project name "R17" by Audi Sport, follows a key set of aims: vehicle safety, cost reduction up to 40 percent, and a breathtaking exterior design. IAA visitors will be able to take a glimpse into the car's look from September 13th to 25th, 2011. The Audi A5 DTM features a lower and more robust silhouette compared to its predecessor, with a completely carbon fiber body and a hybrid chassis construction composed of a carbon fiber monocoque and steel cage for improved safety standards. Furthermore, 50 components within the DTM vehicle are identical across and contribute to cost reduction. "We are proud to have achieved the goal of cost reduction without compromising on the safety and attractiveness of the DTM vehicles," says Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, who was responsible for the development of the new Audi A5 DTM.
