Audi A6 2002 posters

Audi A6

In 1997, the Audi A6 (Typ 4B) was introduced, featuring a design based on the Volkswagen Group C5 platform, a new range of internal combustion engines, and a fastback styling that set the trend for the Audi lineup. It was marketed in the same categories as BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Boasting a modern design and low coefficient of drag of 0.28, it earned a spot in Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list in both 2000 and 2001. The A6 was equipped with various engine configurations, with its 30-valve 2.4- and 2.8-litre V6 engines being the most popular. A five-speed tiptronic automatic transmission was also available. In North America, the C5 A6 was outfitted with both front and rear bumpers protruding several inches further than their European counterparts, as well as other features to comply with FMVSS, like child-seat tethers and daytime running lights as standard equipment. The V8 models, available with quattro permanent four-wheel drive, arrived with modified exterior body panels, including more flared wheel arches, revised headlamps and grille design, larger roadwheels and larger brakes.
