Audi A6 Avant

The introduction of the Audi A6 (Typ 4B) in February 1997, based on the Volkswagen Group C5 platform, marked a new point for the brand. Developed to rival the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the A6 boasts an aerodynamic body with a low drag coefficient of 0.28. Much to its acclaim, in 2000 and 2001 the C5 A6 was ranked on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list. Offering a wide range of engines and configurations, the A6 also paired with a five-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. When it arrived in Europe in mid-1997, North America in late 1997, and Australia in 1998, the C5 Audi A6 was sold with a 30-valve 2.4- and 2.8-litre V6 engines, and a 4.2-litre 40-valve V8 petrol engine (300 PS (220 kW; 300 hp)) in North American markets. North American models were also equipped with bumpers protruding several inches further than their European counterparts,Includesd with modified brackets and bumper suspension assemblies, as well as child-seat tethers for occupant safety. Additionally, Canadian models received daytime running lights as standard equipment. The higher-spec engines were only offered with quattro permanent four-wheel drive. The V8 models featured flared wheel arches, revised headlamps and grille design, larger roadwheels, larger brakes and Torsen-based quattro permanent four-wheel drive.
