Audi A8 3.0 TDI quattro

The Audi A8 (Typ 4E) was launched in 2002 as a successor to the first generation, now boasting a Volkswagen Group D3 platform and more spacious cabin. The development program started four years prior and focused on more refinement of exterior and interior features. Six different sketches turned into full-size clay models, and they were whittled down to two in late 1998. After two years of refinement, the two models were finalized in 1999 by lead designers Miklós Kovács and Imre Hasanic. The body was crafted from aluminium, which posed a challenge in producing sharp lines as compared to steel. To supplement this, the interior was designed with a horizontal theme, with Grouping major controls near the driver for a more driver-focused identity. Multi Media Interface (MMI) designed by Jürgen Schröder was also installed, having been previously demonstrated in the Audi Avantissimo concept car. Colour and trim were provided by Barbara Krömeke and Melinda Jenkins, creating a spacious yet airy atmosphere inside the vehicle.
