Audi A8 4.2 TDI quattro

The second-generation Audi A8 (Typ 4E) was officially unveiled in July 2002 and later released in the European market in November 2002 and the American market in June 2003. The car was larger than the previous model, offering room for four or five full-sized adults depending on the rear seating configuration. The D3 platform development program began in 1996, with the design process initiated one year after in Ingolstadt. Here, six unique proposals, rendered as full-size clay models, emerged from the Audi design studio. After months of streamlining, the exterior was finalized in late 1998, utilizing the efforts of designers Miklós Kovács and Imre Hasanic. At the same time, the interior was refined using four full-size models. With the help of Jurgen Albamonte at the helm, the team was able to prioritize an airy cabin feeling while grouping the controls within reach of the driver for a more driver-focused identity. Additionally, the Multi-Media interface (MMI) was designed by Jurgen Schröder to further improve the driving experience. Color and trim design from Barbara Krömeke and Melinda Jenkins completed the cabin look.
