Audi A8 Hybrid Concept

The Audi A8 Hybrid Concept, presented at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show as a technology concept, combines the power of a big V6 with the fuel economy of a modest four-cylinder. It produces a total output of 180 kW (245 hp) of system power and 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft) of torque, accelerating from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.6 seconds and achieving a top speed of 235 km/h (146.02 mph). Despite such impressive performance, the average fuel consumption is only 6.2 liters (37.94 US mpg) per 100 km with a CO2 equivalent of 144 grams per km (231.75 g/mile). The technology of the Audi A8 Hybrid Concept At the heart of the concept is the 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder engine, a prime example of Audi's downsizing philosophy. This award-winning motor, with the AVS Audi valvelift system and adjustable intake camshaft, delivers 155 kW (211 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft). This impressive torque value is constantly maintained from 1,500 to 4,200 rpm and all the engine components are designed to reduce friction while the flow-rate-regulated, pressure-controlled oil pump further lowers fuel consumption. The two balancer shafts in the crankcase counteract second-order inertial forces to guarantee smooth and quiet operation, qualities that perfectly match the luxurious character of the Audi A8.
