Audi A8 L 4.2 quattro

The second generation of Audi A8 (Typ 4E) was launched in July 2002 as a 2004 model, featuring room for four or five adults according to the rear seat configuration. The development process of D3 platform started in 1996 in Ingolstadt, leading to production of six full-size exterior clay models in 1998, and then to two models late in the same year. After a year of further refinement, the final theme was chosen by Miklós Kovács and Imre Hasanic in the end of 1999. The body of the car was built from aluminium, which took a long time. Simultaneously, the interior design progressed with four full-size models and the instrument panel design was dominated by the horizontally themed one early on, with Norbert Schneider, Mark Bergold and Enzo Rothfuss as key designers. Jurgen Albamonte directed an effort of grouping major controls to make the model more driver-oriented and airy at the same time. This was accomplished with the help of Multi Media Interface designed by Jurgen Schröder, excellent colour and trim from Barbara Krömeke and Melinda Jenkins.
