The highly-anticipated successor to the 2002 RS6 quattro is now available to order in the UK, with an estimated On The Road price of £75,000. The first deliveries are expected in the spring of 2008, with a saloon variant to follow later in the year.
At its core is the 435PS S6 quattro, which utilises a powerful but compact 10-cylinder engine with FSI direct petrol injection. Boosted by two turbochargers and refined components, this engine boasts an impressive 580PS at 6,250rpm and 650Nm of torque from as low as 1,500rpm. The 6-speed tiptronic automatic transmission allows the RS6 quattro to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and 0-124mph in just 14.9 seconds, before hitting its 155mph top speed limit.
Desipte its impressive performance, the V10 retains fuel economy comparable to that of its naturally-aspirated counterpart in the S6 quattro, at up to 20.3mpg in the combined cycle. This largely comes down to FSI direct petrol injection, which reduces the amount of fuel used in each combustion cycle for increased efficiency.
