Audi RS6 Avant [UK]
The all-new Audi RS6 Avant, the successor to the lauded 2002 RS6 quattro, will be available to UK customers in November. First orders will be taken at an expected OTR price of around 70,000 pounds sterling, with deliveries beginning in the early part of 2008 and a saloon variant following later that year.
Sitting beneath the RS6 is the 435PS S6 quattro, which features a ten-cylinder engine with FSI direct petrol injection. To take things up a notch, two turbochargers were added as well as a number of refinements by Audi, increasing the output to a hefty 580PS at 6,250rpm and an impressive 650Nm of torque from just 1500rpm. With this boosted power, the RS6 quattro takes just 4.6 seconds to get to 60 mph, and 14.9 seconds to 124 mph. This impressive speed is limited by the electronic governor which kicks in at 155mph.
Despite the turbochargers, the mighty V10 engine still achieves excellent fuel economy, with the potential to reach 20.3 mpg combined. This efficiency can be attributed to the FSI direct petrol injection, which injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber, making it more economical than typical manifold injection.
