Audi TT 3.2 DSG quattro

The TT is a long-standing model of Audi featuring a transversely mounted engine and either front wheel drive or Quattro all-wheel drive capability. First released with a 1.8-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder 20-valve engine in 1998, the engine has a 180 PS (132 kW) power version. An improved Quattro model emerged in 2001 with a 225 PS (165 kW) engine tricked out with a larger turbocharger, an additional intercooler, forged connecting rods, a dual exhaust and strengthened internals to accommodate the turbo boost increase from 10 psi peak to 15.

To address the car's handling concerns, including throttle lift-off oversteer, Audi issued a recall in late 1999/early 2000 and implemented modifications including the addition of rear-wing spoilers and suspension alterations to enhance understeer. In 2003, a 3.2 L VR6 with a 250 PS (184 kW) and Quattro all-wheel drive system was added, and in October 2004 a new DSG (dual-clutch) gearbox was offered. Audi also developed the "quattro Sport" model with a 240 PS (176 kW) engine and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

Audi has also released the 2006 TT model, which was pulled from California and other states that had adopted California emission standards due to it not meeting with their specific emissions standards.

TT design

The TT is renowned for its iconic design, which was first introduced as a concept car in 1995 and as a production car in 1998. It has a distinctive, rounded bodywork, uses bare aluminum (actually anodized aluminum) and lacks defined bumpers. The TT's design has since been seen as bold, avant-garde and revolutionary, having received numerous awards, including the Autocar and Motor "Style and Design" Car of the Year, the AutoWeek 'Best of What's New' award for design and the Automobile Magazine Design of the Year award.

The design of the TT is believed to have provided automotive designers and manufacturers greater latitude to develop bold, distinctive designs, while its success and popularity has generated its influence all throughout the industry. The car has also made Audi become a serious competitor of car makers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. This, combined with the improvements of the then-new B5-platform A4 model, firmly established Audi as a prominent prestige marque.
