Audi TT Coupe
The Audi TT Coupe was first made available with a 1.8-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder 20-valve engine in 1998. It was designed on the Volkswagen A platform, which is used for the Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, and other vehicles. The TT Coupe was then released with the quattro all-wheel drive system, featuring a 180-PS (132 kW) engine. In 2001, the quattro model was upgraded to a more powerful 225 PS (165 kW) unit, with a larger turbocharger, an additional intercooler, forged connecting rods, and a dual exhaust.
The TT Coupe was recalled in late 1999/early 2000 due to reported handling instability. Modifications were made to the rear-wing spoilers and the suspension settings that improved the car's understeer characteristics, thus ensuing a safer drive.
The product range also included a 250-PS (184 kW) 3.2-litre VR6 engine, as well as a stiffer suspension and a dual-clutch (DSG) gearbox, making for a quicker acceleration with reduced shift time. Audi also developed a "quattro sport" model that has a lightened, power-boosted engine and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
The 06 model was pulled from California due to emissions issues, and this highlighted the criticality of a car's design. On the other hand, the TT represents a bold, innovative design move that escaped the fixed conventions of car design at that time, with Audi having won many design awards thereafter- due to the distinct bodywork, bare aluminum, lack of defined bumpers, which have also gone on to influence many subsequent car designs.
