Audi TT Coupe 1.8T

The Audi TT Coupe 1.8T was first introduced as a production model in September 1998, and a roadster followed the next August. It is based on the Volkswagen A platform, the same one used for the Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, and others. The TT uses a transversely mounted engine with a choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drive, paired with a 1.8 L turbocharged 20-valve four-cylinder engine. 180 PS (132 kW) versions of this engine were included in front wheel drive and Quattro models in the first two model years. In 2001, Quattro models featured an enhanced 225 PS (165 kW) engine, with larger turbocharger, additional intercooler, forged connecting rods, dual exhaust, and other internals for increased turbo boost from 10 psi peak to 15. In late 1999/early 2000, the TT was recalled for handling issues, which were resolved by fitting rear-wing spoilers and tweaks to boost understeer. In 2003, a 3.2 L VR6 version was added, with up to 250 PS (184 kW) and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). A few years later, dual-clutch gearboxes and a stiffer suspension were both offered, and Audi has since developed the TT as a “quattro Sport” model. TT design The TT's design was groundbreaking upon its release in 1995 as a concept car and 1998 as a production car. Its distinctive, rounded bodywork, use of anodized aluminum, and lack of defined bumpers, gave it a unique look. The TT's revolutionary styling has resulted in vehicles that borrow a few elements from it. Its impact has been far-reaching, and the car's popularity reinvigorated Audi as a competitor in the prestige car market. The TT is often considered a vehicle that made people take a second look at Audi.
