Audi TT Roadster 2000 posters

Audi TT Roadster Hardtop

The Audi TT Roadster Hardtop made its production debut as a coupé in September 1998 and was followed by a roadster in August 1999 - a vehicle that shares the same improved Volkswagen A platform used for models such as the Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, and others. This vehicle features a transversely mounted engine and provides an optional all-wheel drive Quattro system. When it was first released, it was equipped with a 1.8 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 20-valves. The first two years of production featured a 180 PS (132 kW) engine in both front wheel drive and Quattro models. In 2001, the Quattro model was upgraded with a stronger 225PS (165 kW) engine. This upgrade included a larger turbocharger, a driver-side intercooler, strengthened connecting rods, and a dual exhaust. All TT models had to be recalled late 1999/early 2000 due to unstable handling at high-speeds due to throttle lift-off oversteer. The corrective modifications included the installation of rear-wing spoilers and adjustment to the suspension. Later, in 2003, a 3.2 liter VR6 engine with 250 PS (184 kW) and the Quattro all-wheel system was offered. In 2004, an even more powerful dual-clutch gearbox was added with a stiffer suspension. The TT design has since been revered as a groundbreaking moment in vehicle design. Its unique aspects, such as bare aluminum detailing and the lack of defined bumpers, made the car stand out among its contemporaries. Its lasting influence can be seen in the design elements of many of the vehicles released after the TT. Its successful styling also raised Audi's popularity and enabled it to compete with the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
