Audi TT Roadster 2002 posters

Audi TT Roadster

The Audi TT Roadster was launched in August 1999, based on the Volkswagen A platform which is also used for the Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia and other vehicles. It was designed as a two-seater sports car with a transversely mounted engine and either front wheel or quattro all wheel drive. Equipped with a 1.8 L turbocharged four-cylinder 20-valve engine and producing 180 PS (132 kW), the car was recalled in late 1999/early 2000 due to concerns with its handling characterised by throttle lift-off oversteer. After modifications to reduce lift and increase understeer, it was equipped with a 225 PS (165 kW) engine, and later a 250 PS (184 kW) 3.2 L VR6 in 2003. In 2004 a dual-clutch gearbox and a stiffer suspension were also introduced. The iconic TT design, with its distinctive rounded bodywork, bare aluminum and absent bumpers, was a unique styling at the time, while its success has given automotive designers and manufacturers the scope to experiment with bold designs. In addition to its charisma and desirability, it has cemented Audi as a prestige marque, no longer just a second-tier European maker.
