Audi TT Roadster 3.2

The Audi TT Roadster 3.2 was first released as a coupé in September 1998, followed by a roadster in August 1999. Built on the Volkswagen A platform, the TT Roadster features transversally mounted engine with front-wheel or quattro all-wheel drive capabilities. It was introduced with a 1.8L turbocharged four-cylinder 20-valve engine that puts out 180PS (132kW). In 2001, a more powerful Quattro model was released, the 225 PS (165 kW) iteration has a larger turbocharger, additional intercooler on the driver's side, forged connecting rods and dual exhaust. All cars released in 1999 and 2000 were recalled due to suspension settings and lift-off oversteer, these modifications are incorporated in all following models. A 3.2L VR6 engine with 250 PS (184 kW) was released in early 2003, and in 2004 a new DSG dual clutch gearbox was offered. Audi also developed the quattro Sport model which boosts power to 240 PS (176 kW) and increases top speed to 250km/hr (155mph), Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson calls its handling 'boring' in comparison to the Nissan 350Z. However, Audi vehicles are generally designed to exhibit understeer which is safer and easier to control than oversteer which the 350Z exhibits. The 2006 TT model was pulled from California and other states due to failing to meet emissions standards. The TT's design is considered a watershed moment in automobile design, and it has influenced the design elements of many other vehicles. Its distinctive rounded bodywork and bold use of bare anodized aluminum without defined bumpers made it stand out from the other cars of that time. The design earned it significant popularity which gave a lot of room to automotive designers to experiment with more daring, distinctive design.
