Bentley Azure

Bentley Motors revealed the production version of the new Azure at the 2005 IAA Motor Show in Frankfurt. This luxurious four-seater, which went on sale in Spring 2006, is the latest addition to an impressive portfolio of 'dropheads' that have been produced by Bentley over the years, reinforcing its reputation as the creator of the world's most elegant convertibles. The arrival of the new Azure was first previewed by Bentley when it revealed the glamorous Bentley Arnage Drophead Coupé show car at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2005. This show car received such a positive response from Bentley aficionados that it was decided to continue its development programme, with the first customers cars being delivered in Spring 2006. It was then announced that the production version of this show car will bear the name of the iconic predecessor–the Bentley Azure. Therefore, becoming the flagship of the Bentley model range. The design of the new Azure has ensured that it is unmistakeably a Bentley. Having similar features to current Arnage models and a platform that permits four adults to be seated in the utmost comfort. Its cabin and rear section are all newly designed, with an exquisite bespoke interior. It also boasts a complex folding roof, which is operated by hydraulics and can be stowed beneath the tonneau in under 30 seconds. The Bentley Azure is powered by a 450bhp (336Kw) version of the Bentley Arnage's 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged intercooled V8 engine and produces 875Nm (645lb ft) of torque. With its state-of-the-art twin-turbocharged V8 engine, double-wishbone suspension and highly rigid body chassis, the specification of the production version of the Bentley Azure is extremely close to the L.A. show car. Apart from the addition of high technology, lightweight, carbon fibre, under-floor cross braces that improve body stiffness, refinement, ride and handling. Furthermore, the chrome trimmed bumpers and sills of the original show car have been exchanged for body colour-coated bumpers and sills with a thin chrome trim that follows the length of the car. "The production-specification Bentley Azure graces our stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show just nine months after we revealed our concept car in Los Angeles," says Bentley Motors chairman, Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen. "We develop cars that our customers want and that are faithful to our heritage. The new Azure epitomises our philosophy of creating cars that people desire."
