BMW 1-Series M Coupe MotoGP Safety Car

The BMW 1-Series M Coupe has been chosen as the official Safety Car for the 2011 MotoGP events, before its market launch in late April. This one-off model was designed and build by BMW M GmbH specifically for this race series. The 250 kW/340 hp straight-six M TwinPower Turbo engine and drivetrain were retained from the production model. Optimised weight was achieved with the use of a carbon fibre-reinforced bonnet featuring large air vents, as well as polycarbonate side and rear windows. Additionally, a special titanium race exhaust system was fitted to save weight and provide a captivating sound for the spectators. For the aerodynamic honing, a discreet spoiler lip is on the boot lid and an adjustable rear wing is fitted to provide the necessary downforce, while the front apron features additional air ducts with Air Curtains and a splitter integrated in the underside of the apron.
