BMW is representing the motorsport version of the new 3 Series at the 61st International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt from the 12th September. Developed by BMW Motorsport, this 275 bhp racing car has a 2-litre four-cylinder in-line engine adhering to the Super 2000 regulation. It has to be noted that the BMW 320si is 45mm longer and 36mm wider than its predecessor. From 2006, the BMW 320si will be competing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and several other championships such as Denmark, Italy, Russia, Sweden and Asia. The successful E46 series racing car has been adopted by motorsport teams whereby more than 100 racing sports kits have been sold by BMW racing parts distributors. Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director comments, “Touring cars goes hand-in-hand with BMW and it is through the sport, the brand has grown. As we go forward, we are keen to make racing affordable for our customers as well as offer high-performance packages. Therefore, we’re continuing this tradition by introducing the motorsport version of the BMW 3 Series. We’re certain the model will prove to be a success, adding more to BMW’s impressive history.” Additionally, from December 2005, the BMW 320si will be available as a limited edition from BMW dealers.
