BMW 325Ci Coupe

The BMW E46, a compact executive car, was produced from 1998 to 2007. It was introduced as a sedan and later became available as a coupe, touring, convertible, and hatchback body style. All-wheel drive ("xDrive") returned to the 3 Series and was available in the 325xi and 330xi sedan and wagon models. The car experienced great success and was the record seller in 2002 with 561,249 vehicles sold worldwide. It was considered the performance benchmark of its class and competing models included the Alfa Romeo 156, Audi A4, Lexus IS/Toyota Altezza, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Saab 9-3 and the Volvo S60. The M3 version of the E46 came with the BMW S54 straight-six engine and was released in 2001 in coupé and convertible body styles. It was available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed "SMG-II" sequential manual gearbox. The exterior was designed by Erik Goplen and DesignworksUSA, creating an aggressive stance with improved aerodynamics compared to the E36 chassis. The interior incorporated the latest BMW technologies, such as BMW's Bluetooth System, DVD-based navigation, and CD changers playing MP3s. Weight and rigidity were improved upon to reduce unsprung weight and increase structural rigidity. The E46 328 had only 3 horsepower more than the E36 equivalent, but was 55 kilograms (121 lb) heavier. The balance between front-engined and rear-wheel drive allowed for optimal handling.
