BMW 5 ActiveHybrid
BMW has pushed its intelligent hybrid drive technology to the next level with another ActiveHybrid model. A petrol engine is paired with an electric motor to combine efficiency and the renowned BMW driving pleasure. This BMW 5 ActiveHybrid is the first model featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo six-in-line engine, an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Together, they deliver a maximum power of 250 kW/340 hp to the rear wheels.
The lithium-ion high-voltage battery that powers the synchronous electric motor is stored in the boot, between the wheel arches. BMW's latest ActiveHybrid technology also incorporates precise energy management, delivering an especially well-balanced performance and fuel efficiency for a luxury executive car. All the parts of the hybrid drivetrain and energy management systems have been designed specially for the BMW ActiveHybrid 5, creating an integrated system demonstrating the advantages of BMW ActiveHybrid technology. All the hybrid components are engineered to last the life of the vehicle.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 is the first hybrid model from BMW to use a six-cylinder in-line engine. This 3.0 litre six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology
produces 225 kW/306 hp at 5,800 rpm and 400 Newton metres (295 lb-ft) of torque between 1,200 and 5,000 rpm. Garnering international acclaim for its efficient performance and thrilling drive, the engine has been awarded the "Engine of the Year" award for two consecutive years.
