BMW 5 Series

The BMW E60/E61 series is the fifth generation of the BMW 5 Series, which was sold from 2003 to 2010. It replaced the E39 series and was succeeded by the F10/F11 5 Series in 2010. The E60/E61 series featured several body styles, including the sedan and "Touring" (wagon/estate) introduced in 2004, and the popular M5 variant with the S85 V10 engine, available in both sedan and wagon. Development of the E60 began in 1997, and was finished in 2003. The final design, created by Davide Arcangeli under the directorship of Chris Bangle, was approved in 2000 and German design patents were filed on April 16, 2002. Compared to its predecessor the E39, the E60 offered a longer, wider, heavier, and taller body, providing more interior and trunk space. The E60 also had a different style of body and interior, offering a dual curved LCD display, basic buttons, and iDrive system, all of which shifted the focus away from the driver-oriented E39. The success of the E60 series led to the production of many aftermarket parts, including copies of M-Sport parts produced by Hamann, AC Schnitzer, Hartge, and Dinan at a cheaper cost than the originals. Additionally, there were a large number of after market performance parts produced, so owners could further customise their ride.
