BMW 530i

The BMW E60/E61 series is the fifth generation of the BMW 5 Series, which was sold from 2003 to 2010. It was launched in a sedan body style, with the "Touring" (wagon/estate) body style being introduced in 2004. The M5 variant was released in 2005, powered by the S85 V10 engine and sold in sedan and wagon body styles, with most cars using a 7-speed automated manual transmission ("SMG III"). The development programme for the E60 began in 1997, and the final design, created by Davide Arcangeli under the direction of Chris Bangle, was approved in 2000 with German design patents filed on April 16th 2002. Compared to its predecessor the E39, the E60 was longer, wider, heavier and higher, resulting in a more spacious interior and trunk area. The exterior was more rounded, and the interior moved away from the driver-orientated E39 to a flat design with an LCD display, basic buttons and iDrive system seen in the E65 7-Series. The E60's success in the automotive community saw many specialist companies producing aftermarket replacements for its parts, including M-Sport parts. Popular performance parts and modifications were also released for the particularly swift E60.
