BMW 7 Series

The BMW E65, designated the fourth generation 7 Series, is a full-size luxury sedan produced and marketed by BMW. Its several variants, the E66/E67/E68, formed the Long-Wheelbase, BMW High Security and BMW Hydrogen 7 models, respectively. Following its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2001, the BMW E65 7 Series replaced the BMW 7 Series (E38) that had ended production in July of the same year. In order to accommodate the new model, BMW invested approximately €500,000,000 to retool its Dingolfing plant. However, the E65 was met with sharp criticism regarding its design and iDrive system upon its initial release. Sales of the earlier E38 models continued to increase due to customer dissatisfaction–although the E65 eventually proved to be the most popular generation 7 Series. Its success was further enhanced with a facelift in 2006, and it ran for a 7 year production until replaced by the BMW 7 Series (F01) late in 2008. Initial release The development of the BMW E65 7 Series began in 1996, and production specifications were fixed by 1999. Its design was patented in 2000 and production ended mid-2001. The car was first launched in Europe in November 2001 and then made its way to other markets in the (northern) spring of 2002. Many issues persisted, however, such as the iDrive system and electronics, and BMW of North America extended the factory warranty for 2002-03 BMW E65 7 Series from 4-Year/50,000-Mile (80,000 km) to 6-Year/100,000-Mile (160,000 km). UK models retained the original 3-Year/Unlimited-Miles warranty.
