BMW 760Li E66

The BMW E66 760Li is the fourth generation 7 Series full-size luxury sedan produced by BMW. It was first introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2001 alongside the BMW E53 X5 4.6is and replaced the BMW 7 Series (E38) that had ended production in July 2001. BMW invested a considerable sum to retool the Dingolfing plant to produce the E65 7 Series and other future models. The E66 7 Series received criticism for its looks and its steep learning curve posed by the new iDrive system. Consequently, sales of the E38 stock increased after launch. Despite this, the E65 7 Series became highly successful thanks to a facelift in 2006. In late 2008, it was replaced by the BMW 7 Series (F01). Initial release occurred in January 1999 with specifications frozen. The design was patented on 16 November 2000 and development finished mid-2001. The car was first released in Europe on 17 November 2001 before arriving in US and other markets in the spring of 2002. The 7 Series models in the US were met with widespread customer complaints about iDrive functionality and electronics, so BMW ended up repurchasing a large amount of 2002-03 models as well as extended the factory warranty to a 6-Year/100,000-Mile (160,000 km). UK models, however, stayed protected by their 3-Year/Unlimited-Miles warranty.
