BMW M3 CSL

In 2003 BMW introduced the series version of the highly praised Concept Car originally seen at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show - the BMW M3 CSL, meaning "Coupé, Sports, Lightweight". This concept went back to the era of the '30s, when BMW unveiled the legendary 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupé. But now, unlike in that time when weight was reduced by removing components, BMW's engineers opted for a more intelligent approach, using the best materials at suitable points, ultimately cutting the BMW M3's weight by 110 kilos or 243 lb, to just 1,385 kg or 3,054 lb. Another modification there was was an upgrade to the power unit, now reaching 265 kW or 360 hp. This enabled the BMW M3 CSL to have an astonishing power-to-weight ratio of 3.85 kg per horsepower, rendering it even more agile and dynamic. As a result, it could reach 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and 200 km/h in a remarkable 16.8 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h or 155 mph. And lucky drivers of the BMW M3 CSL could benefit from even more technological assistance and enhancements. Such as BMW's Sequential M Gearbox complete with Drivelogic or the M Track Mode. This special transmission allows a lightning-fast gearshift of only 0.08 seconds, enabled by paddles on the steering wheel. And Launch Control integrated in the system allows the driver to accelerate all the way to top speed without worrying about engine speed limits. Additionally, DSC mode brought from motorsport was also available on the BMW M3 CSL - the M Track Mode. This had indicators in the dashboard so the driver could make the most out of the car's acceleration within its physical limits, with DSC only activating in extreme situations.
