BMW M3 Coupe [US]

Generations of BMW M3 Coupe models have left an indelible mark on sports car enthusiasts and racers around the world. The 2008 BMW M3 Coupe, BMW M GmbH's most powerful and best performing in the series, is no exception. Boasting a 414-horsepower V8 and athletically-tuned chassis designed to be "faster than its engine," the M3 Coupe provides maximum performance tempered with luxurious convenience. The beginnings of the M3 Coupe legend trace back to 1986 when BMW introduced its first model. In order to compete in the German Touring Car Championship, it was necessary for the automaker to produce road-going versions of its BMW 3-Series Coupe, chosen as the car to enter, and its wide popularity drove BMW into subsequent developments and improvements of the coupe. In 1988, North American drivers first had the opportunity to experience BMW M3 Coupe's 192-hp engine. In the years afterward, the M3 evolved to a 3.0-liter (followed by a 3.2-liter) 240-hp inline-six. 1997 brought the introduction of the first BMW M3 Sedan and Convertible, powered by a 3.2-liter 333-hp six-cylinder engine. This generation also marked BMW's first use of the SMG Sequential Manual Gearbox for the US market.
