BMW M3 Race Version

At the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, BMW presented the racing version of the new BMW M3, a 485 bhp eight cylinder powerhouse. This race car has been designed specially to compete in the 2009 American Le Mans Series (ALMS). It is based on the fourth generation BMW M3, a highly performing sports vehicle crafted by BMW M GmbH. According to Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director, the production BMW M3 had laid the foundation for the racing version, as it comes with a V8 engine as standard. He is convinced that the legend of the BMW M3 racing cars will be considerably augmented. As for 2019, BMW of North America is entering the American Le Mans Series with BMW M3, a project realized in alliance with Rahal Letterman Racing, co-owned by motorsport celebrity Bobby Rahal. Chairman and CEO of BMW of North America, Tom Purves, is enthusiastic to be back with the newest BMW M3 in the ALMS. He reminded that sports car racing has been part of BMW of North America's tale since day one, witnessing as an example the 1975 CSL victorious in the twelve hours of Sebring. With this new BMW M3, Purves is confident it will keep up the legacy of its predecessors who triumphed in six manufacturer's championships in U.S. sports car racing over nine seasons.
